Be a Good Neighbor
Students who live off-campus are part of two communities: JWU and their city neighborhood. Being a good citizen of both is a major responsibility students undertake.
Community Responsibility
JWU students who live off campus remain subject to the Student Code of Conduct, published in the Student Handbook. Living off campus does not change that. A student’s conduct in the neighborhood reflects directly on the university.
The university expects students to uphold the values of the Wildcat Way on and off campus, and to recognize that the people around them have made a long-term commitment to the neighborhood. Students who transition from residential living to off-campus living are temporary residents for the duration of their academic studies. All students living off campus are expected to know and follow city ordinances and other laws.
JWU expects students to maintain respectful relations with their neighbors. Common areas of concern include noise, automobiles, property and alcohol consumption.
JWU’s Campus Safety & Security team responds to complaints from neighbors and others when off-campus behavior is inconsistent with university expectations. Students found in violation of the Student Code of Conduct go through the university’s Conduct Review Process and may face sanctions. The university may hold student tenants responsible for a violation of the Good Neighbor Policy that occurs at their address.
