Biography and Expertise

My name is Tina Long Spach and I have been teaching for Johnson and Wales University since 2014. I received my Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2001. My thesis, “Case Study in West Macedonia,” focused on a neighborhood in downtown High Point, North Carolina targeted for redevelopment. The topics included in my thesis were urban renewal, social stratification and the social construction of space. I focused on how the intersection of geography and history played out in a neighborhood plagued with high crime and unemployment. My interviews with residents shed light on the meanings they placed on their community and the changes that were taking place.

I have been teaching and designing online courses since 2005. Courses I have taught online and in person include: Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Sociology of the Family, Criminology, Global Problems in a Social Context and Deviant Behavior. I look forward to working with you and hope you enjoy Sociology as much as I do!
