Biography and Expertise
Dr. Tiffany Rhodes, an Associate Professor at Johnson and Wales University, has forged a remarkable path that spans continents and disciplines, leaving a mark on the fields of biology, education, humanitarian work, cross-cultural studies, and sustainable tourism.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and moved to Kenya, Africa to study abroad as a biologist to research elephant and rhinoceros populations. Upon her return to the States, Dr. Rhodes moved to Portland, Oregon, to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Cross-Cultural Studies. She worked as an educator for an outdoor education program, and in public education, as well as an adventure guide throughout the continental US. She has also completed a Doctoral degree in Cross-Cultural Studies with an emphasis on war, peace, and reconciliation and has done humanitarian work in war-torn areas, including Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, and Nicaragua. Her expertise in the travel and tourism industry has led her to more than 60 different countries around the world and throughout the continental United States, as a leader, manager, and marketer of Adventure Travel, Voluntourism, and Ecotourism expeditions. Along with being a world traveler, Dr. Rhodes is a certified mountain bike guide, coach, and sponsored downhill racer.
Dr. Rhodes is a professional member of the International Ecotourism Society (TIES), the Adventure Trade Travel Association (ATTA), and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). She is certified by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, George Washington University (GW), The International Ecotourism Society, and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (CHE). Dr. Rhodes serves as an advisor on the Statewide Comprehensive Recreation Plan (SCORP) committee for Rhode Island and is an Academic Affiliate of the Center for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism (CREST). She is also on the Education and Training Working Group of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, (GSTC). Along with these endeavors, Dr. Rhodes is serving on the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Council.
Currently, Dr. Rhodes is working on a second doctoral degree at Clemson University. She is pursuing a PhD in Park, Recreation, and Tourism Management, researching sustainable tourism development and natural resource management.
