Biography and Expertise

Born and raised in Savannah, GA. I obtained Bachelors Degree in Theology from Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL. I earned a Masters in Teaching History from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI.

I began my teaching experience in Detroit, MI as a high school History and Religion teacher. In 1982, I relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Fl where I taught grades 5 – 8, primarily Social Studies and Basic Skills. Moving on from there in 1985 to St. Petersburg, Fl where I taught the same courses to the same levels, along with serving as the school’s Principal. I would duplicate those responsibilities again when I relocated to Kinston, NC in 1988, where I worked until relocating to Charlotte in Summer of 1990. From Fall 1990 – end of the academic year in 1994, I taught middle school-aged students, in addition to serving as the school’s principal.

From the beginning of the academic year 1995, I taught History and Computer Literacy at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte until I accepted the teaching position at Johnson & Wales University, August 2004. For 12 years, at JWU, I taught History and Foundations of Leadership courses, until retiring at the end of the academic year 2016.

One of my most gratifying professional experiences was to return to JWU in January of 2024 to teach History and Civics.
