Biography and Expertise

Chef Michael Calenda has worked since 2004 as an Associate Chef Instructor for Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte North Carolina and is an ’88 & ’04 graduate of Johnson & Wales University. He has worked in the food service industry since 1978 holding Food and Beverage management positions with The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton and Hilton hotels, the prestigious Ocean Reef Club of Key Largo and as an Executive Chef for the PGATOUR’s Tournament Players Club Properties. “I have a deep passion for teaching the culinary arts” says Calenda, “I have extensive training in the culinary world and passing that knowledge onto passionate students hungry for knowledge is what makes my clock tick”. Having spent the last 20 years teaching for his alma mater, Calenda understands what it takes to train and nurture future chefs in this demanding industry to achieve stunning results with food. Calenda received his Masters Degree in Education from UNCC in 2014.
