Biography and Expertise
My teaching journey started as a special education teacher in 1997 when I graduated from Providence College. My love of literacy and desire to meet the needs of all students led me to an M.Ed. from Boston College to become a reading specialist. Most of my teaching career was spent as a reading specialist in East Providence, Rhode Island. In 2021 I graduated from Boston College with a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, focusing on literacy and special education. I worked as an Assistant Principal for 2 years while starting to teach in higher education. I fell in love with higher education and continue to pursue a career in teacher education. I have written grants to research pre-service teacher experiences during COVID and partnered with the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) to train pre-service teachers in trauma informed teaching in regards to Native American students.
