Biography and Expertise

Born and raised in New York City as the youngest of seven children, Jennifer Lapinel Spincken earned both her B.A. and M.A. in literature from New York University. She later pursued an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was also an M.F.A. Fellow. Her areas of expertise are early British literature, and American short fiction/poetry.

Her poetry draws heavily from her adolescent and early adult experiences, including her transition into parenthood. Her work has appeared in various literary journals such as New York Quarterly, Yellow Arrow Journal, Haunted Waters Press, Twist in Time Magazine, and Rabid Oak. In 2019, her poem “Little People” received a Pushcart Prize nomination.

Jennifer Lapinel Spincken develops and teaches writing and literature courses at a number of universities. She also enjoys tracking teaching and technology innovations which further benefit students and student engagement.

She presently resides in the Northeast with her family.
