Living in Providence, Rhode Island

JWU’s Providence Campus is made up of two campus locations. Downcity, located in the heart of Providence’s arts and culture district, and Harborside, which overlooks Narragansett Bay — each has its own distinct personality. (And they’re connected by a free JWU shuttle.)

When you’re not in class, get involved in one of our 100+ student clubs, attend campus events and explore downtown Providence, the No. 2 most walkable city in the U.S. according to USA Today.

Campus Housing That Feels Like Home

Living on campus gives students an opportunity to experience the best of JWU. Our 10 residence halls offer traditional rooms, suites and apartment-style living. Gender-inclusive housing options are available, and we offer pet-friendly communities in select residences.

A Variety of Campus Dining Options to Choose From

JWU Campus Dining offers robust menus that accommodate many dietary needs and preferences. You can grab a quick snack on-the-go from Clocktower Deli & Market, get your favorite drink at Starbucks, sit down for an all-you-care-to-eat meal at Harborside Café and more. Every Campus Dining location accepts and offers options for meal plan swipes or flex dollars. (They take cash and credit cards, too.)

How To Get Involved

100+ Student Clubs and Organizations

From beekeeping to snowboarding, our clubs and organizations span a wide range of topics — if you can’t find something you like, you can easily start your own club! Fraternities and sororities are also active on our campus. You’ll get to meet all the clubs and organizations at the Student Involvement Fest, one of the Welcome Week events that kicks off the fall semester. Campus events like this are an integral part of our traditions and allow students to come together to make new friends.

Students need support in and out of the classroom. We have services and resources dedicated to academic, financial, mental, physical, spiritual and social well-being.

Getting Around Providence

Transportation Around Campus and in the City

For traveling between the Harborside and Downcity campuses, you can hop on the free Wildcat Wheels shuttle. If you have your own car on campus, you can purchase a parking permit for the Downcity parking garage (day-time parking only) or for designated lots on the Harborside Campus. JWU students can also buy a discounted RI Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus pass to get around the city and state.

Commuters

Living off-campus? Here’s what to know.

Commuting students are still part of the campus community and have access to all the same resources and services as students living on campus. There are also dedicated commuter hang-out spaces on campus, and our Student Engagement office is always available to help you with planning for off-campus living.

JWU Global

Support for International Students

JWU Global is a unified hub dedicated to supporting international students throughout their entire JWU journey. The International Student Services Office offers comprehensive immigration and support services for JWU’s international student population, and the English Language Culture Academy teaches the English as a Second Language (ESL) program to help international students improve their English language skills.

Campus Safety & Security

Officers patrol the Downcity and Harborside campuses 24 hours a day, year-round. Card-access entry controls every building, and blue light emergency phones are placed at regular intervals across both campuses. If you’d rather not walk alone after dark, Safe Walk will send someone to walk with you or drive you.
