Dining at The Caf

JWU Charlotte students eat at The Caf, our primary dining location. It’s an “all-you-care-to-eat” venue where students can sit down for a meal or place mobile to-go orders. The menu changes daily and features breakfast, lunch and dinner items at the following stations:

  • Grill — items like fried or grilled chicken, specialty sandwiches, quesadillas and more
  • Pizza & Pasta
  • Wildcat Kitchen — comfort meals and global cuisine
  • Dessert
  • Soup & Salad

Caf-to-Go is our second dining location, and is your destination for all-day and late-night dining using the Transact mobile app. We also offer 24/7 hot meal vending.

Meal Plans

Your meal plan has three parts. Meal swipes get you into The Caf. Bonus meals cover a mobile order from Caf-to-Go, worth $15 each. Flex dollars work like cash for vending machines or anything you want to add on. All three live on your JWU ID card.

Which plan is for you

  • First-year students: the Gold Plan.
  • Sophomores, juniors, seniors and transfer students: any plan you choose, with Blue as the minimum. All students living on campus need a plan.
  • Commuter students: all undergraduate commuters are enrolled in the Commuter Meal Plan automatically. If you’d rather not have one, submit the Commuter Meal Plan Opt-Out Request form. If you keep it, ask the dining team about trading your flex dollars for the discounted 28-meal block — it’s only for commuters.

Wildcat Meal Blocks can be added to any plan, or bought on their own by students, faculty and staff: 50 meals for $500, 25 for $300 or 10 for $130.

No meal plan? Breakfast is $10 and lunch or dinner is $15.

How the pieces work

Meal swipes are used at The Caf and reset every Sunday night. Unused swipes don’t carry into the next week. On the Gold Plan, you can enter The Caf as often as you like, with 30 minutes between visits.

Bonus meals are for mobile ordering from Caf-to-Go through the Transact app. Each one covers a $15 order. If you upgrade something and the total runs higher, pay the difference with flex dollars, debit or credit.

Flex dollars are worth $1 each and work at The Caf and campus vending machines. Your balance drops as you spend it, and you can add more any time during the year. Anything left at the end of a term is gone.

Buying and changing your plan

If you live on campus, you’ll pick your plan in the housing portal when you choose your room. The cost goes on your student account. Need to add more meals or flex dollars?

Nutrition Support

If you have a food allergy or questions about what you’re eating, a registered dietitian is available to help. Dining on campus is managed by Chartwells, and their regional dietitian works directly with students on allergies, dietary needs and general nutrition questions.

Student-athletes and anyone training regularly can also use Performance Circle, a program built around eating to support training, recovery and daily performance.

When do weekly meals reset?

Meal swipes reset every Sunday night for the week.

How often does the menu change?

Menu favorites rarely change, but our menu rotation includes eight weeks of variety.

Can I request menu items?

We welcome requests, menu suggestions and will cook other items if you can’t find something to eat. Just ask!

How can I check my meal balance?

You can check the status of meals and flex dollars on the Transact Mobile Ordering app called EAccounts using your JWU credentials or by inquiring with the cashier at The Caf.
